About Me

Photography by TheNisSilenT
Laneigh Ramirez is a Canadian artist, based in Toronto, Ontario. Her works throughout 2020 experiment with texture, colour, and line, to bring out an authentic vibrancy in her portraits. These portraits, honouring her favourite Black creatives, provided the Black representation in art that Ramirez lacked growing up.
In the Flesh (2021) marks the beginning of a new artistic era for Ramirez. Here she takes inspiration from the highs and lows of her experiences as a Black woman. She is discovering how to find happiness, how to fulfill the wishes of her inner child, and how to navigate her psyche as an adult Black woman living independently in the city. Through her combination of figuration and impressionism, she intends to create a visually healing experience in order to encourage other young Black women to prioritize their happiness.
Additionally, Ramirez has a passion for airbrush portraits and filmmaking. She aims to direct films surrounding contemporary Black lifestyles, along with fashion films and music videos.
